Haley Gallina and Migui de la Peña met at a New Year's Eve party, introduced by Sam, Migui's high school friend and Haley's college roommate. They started dating that spring, during Haley's last semester at Marquette, and Migui later proposed in Chicago with Bon Iver playing. On August 3, 2019, they married at Lacuna Lofts, the former macaroni factory in Pilsen, with the ceremony on the rooftop and dinner downstairs.
Their invitations were printed with botanical line drawings in black and white, and the day leaned into a relaxed, boho mix of greenery, wine red and the building's old brick and wood floors. Haley got ready in the lofts and wore a lace-bodice gown with a full tulle skirt, a crown of greenery and white flowers tied with ribbon, and a gold heart locket. Her bouquet was white garden roses, deep red blooms, eucalyptus and fern, wrapped in burgundy ribbon. Migui wore a charcoal suit with a burgundy floral tie, and his groomsmen matched. Her bridesmaids wore long wine-colored dresses and carried bunches of greenery.
Before the ceremony, Haley and Migui held hands around the corner of a brick wall so they could talk without seeing each other.
The ceremony started at 5:00 on the roof. Vintage red rugs ran down the aisle between rows of white chairs, and the couple stood at the railing with the Willis Tower and the rest of the skyline behind them. Migui walked down the aisle with his parents, and Haley walked with her dad. After the kiss, guests threw confetti as the two of them came back up the aisle, and cocktails followed on the roof while the wedding party took photos against the skyline and a Pilsen mural.
At 6:30 everyone moved down to the Reverie Gallery, a long room of timber beams, exposed ducts and string lights. Guests found their seats on cards clipped to a wood pallet. Round tables were dressed in ivory with sage napkins, burlap favor bags, eucalyptus garlands, candles in glass on wood slices and chalkboard table numbers. The head table sat in front of a brick wall hung with ivory fabric and Edison bulbs. They cut the cake at 7:40, had their first dance at 8:20 under patterned light, and the final song played at 12:30.
