ADLER PLANETARIUM | CHICAGO, IL
The Adler Planetarium sits at the edge of Lake Michigan with no buildings behind it — just the lake, the sky, and Museum Campus stretching out toward the water. That position is part of what makes it one of Chicago's most particular event venues, and Angela and Kelly understood it clearly when they chose it for their wedding. What they also knew early was that the evening would be small. Fewer than fifty guests, all by design. The kind of hospitality that is only available when the room is intentionally that size.
Steracle Press designed the stationery suite to set up the visual world before the day arrived: navy envelopes lined with a gold constellation print, a cream invitation engraved with the Adler's dome illustration, dark botanical accents in deep plum and crimson. The suite told guests where they were going and gave them the first signal of the palette. Life In Bloom built the floral world to answer it — burgundy dahlias, dried palms, crimson and plum blooms arranged in bouquets that read as dramatic and deliberate at every scale.
Before the ceremony, the couple moved through Museum Campus on a summer afternoon. Portraits on the classical stone balustrades at the lake's edge. The Adler exterior from a distance, its dome among the trees. Then inside the Solarium, where Life In Bloom had installed a dark geometric metal arch at the end of the aisle, garlanded densely in deep florals with pillar candles standing on either side. String musicians played as guests found their seats. Both brides met at the altar with the lake visible through the glass behind them and the Solarium's lattice ceiling overhead.

Cocktail hour was designed as its own experience, not a holding pattern. Food For Thought catered the evening, and the station choices made that hour feel more like the beginning of a dinner party than an intermission — freshly shucked oysters on ice, a chef finishing pasta tableside from a parmesan wheel, passed canapes moving through the room while guests circulated the dark, dramatically lit space under the Adler's architecture.
The Solarium for dinner was set in dark linens from Nuage Designs, with long banquet tables lit by gold candelabras and deep red and burgundy floral centerpieces by Life In Bloom. The geometric glass ceiling — a grid of X-patterned frames running the full span of the room — caught the candlelight and the ambient uplighting from Luxe Productions, containing the room in its own atmosphere. Outside, the lake had gone dark. Inside, everything was exactly as planned.
DJ D. Jones and the Spark Entertainment Group carried the reception through dinner and into the dance floor, with a live saxophonist working alongside the DJ through the evening. Then, for the first dance, the Adler's planetarium projection activated — a full galaxy field of stars and deep blue and violet light spreading across the Solarium's ceiling and walls. Both brides moved through it on the dance floor as if the room had been waiting all night to show them this.
When a wedding is built for fewer than fifty guests as an intentional choice, every element gets more room. The florals, the stationery, the plated dinner, the projection — none of it competed for attention. Alex Ferreri photographed the day. Aspen Avenue filmed it. Chicago Bridal Artists handled hair and makeup. Wedicity designed and coordinated the entire evening. This is what the Adler Planetarium looks like when the wedding is built from the inside out.
