When the world threw Jessica and Michael a curveball in 2020, they didn’t let it stop them from celebrating their love. Originally, they planned a glamorous wedding at Revel Motor Row with nearly 200 guests, but the COVID-19 pandemic had other ideas. Like countless other couples affected by the pandemic, they faced the difficult choice: postpone or pivot. After months of planning, shifting their wedding vision felt daunting. Yet, one thing was clear: Jessica and Michael wanted to say “I Do” on July 11, 2020, even if it meant reimagining their big day.
From Grand Venue to Intimate Backyard Setting
As their wedding date approached, Illinois allowed gatherings of up to 50 people, sparking a new plan. Jessica and Michael opted for a more intimate, backyard ceremony at their new home, surrounded by immediate family and closest friends. Loved ones who couldn’t attend in person joined the celebration virtually via Zoom, bringing joy and connection despite the distance.
This shift to a micro-wedding didn’t diminish the magic. In fact, it enhanced the intimacy of the day, allowing the couple to savor each moment with those closest to them.
Small Guest List, Big Moments
While the guest list was smaller, the day was filled with moments just as meaningful and memorable. Jessica shared a morning of laughter and excitement with her bridesmaids as they got ready together. The couple also enjoyed a special first look in a nearby park, capturing stunning photos that encapsulate their love and excitement.
The skilled eye of Jason Brown Photography beautifully documented these moments, telling the story of Jessica and Michael’s wedding day through powerful, heartfelt images. Each snapshot captured the couple’s joy, love, and resilience in the face of unexpected challenges.
Transforming Their Backyard into a Dream Venue
Thanks to Marquee Event Rental and Kehoe Designs, Jessica and Michael’s backyard was transformed into a charming and elegant wedding venue.
An elegant tent provided the perfect shelter for the ceremony and reception, while floral arrangements and decor added a touch of magic. The design was sophisticated yet welcoming, creating a space that felt both intimate and grand—a true testament to the couple’s vision and the talent of their vendors.
A Safe and Memorable Celebration
Safety was a top priority. Entertaining Company catered the reception with careful attention to COVID-19 guidelines, setting up a contactless buffet and ensuring that all staff wore masks, shields, and gloves. This approach allowed guests to enjoy the delicious meal worry-free, adding a sense of comfort to the celebration.
While their wedding day looked different than they originally imagined, Jessica and Michael never stopped smiling. Surrounded by love and laughter, they embraced each moment with joy. Though some friends and family were only present in spirit, the socially-distanced gathering was filled with the warmth and closeness of a more traditional wedding.
Even though their day looked far more different than what they could have ever imagined, a smile never left Jessica and Michael's face. Though, there was a missing presence of many physically, it was a socially-safe and covid-compliant wedding that was just as beautiful and perfect as ever! Jessica and Michael had the time of their life and remember their wedding weekend by saying it was more perfect than they could ever imagine.
They will definitely hold on to these memories for forever and have quite the story to tell their grandchildren!
A Wedding to Remember
Jessica and Michael’s wedding day became a story they’ll share for generations—a story of love that thrived despite the obstacles. Their micro-wedding was more than a compromise; it was a celebration of resilience, creativity, and commitment. The day may have been smaller in scale, but it was boundless in love, and they’ll cherish those memories forever.
