A Restaurant Wedding Venue Under a Rooftop Farm, Near Fulton Market
Maxwells Trading is a restaurant in a converted warehouse at 1516 W. Carroll Avenue, in the Kinzie Industrial Corridor just west of Fulton Market. Three greenhouses on the roof, run by The Roof Crop, grow flowers and produce for the kitchen downstairs. Inside you get exposed white brick, big industrial windows, warm pendant lights and a gold-trimmed archway between the rooms. Chefs Erling Wu-Bower and Chris Jung were James Beard Award finalists for Best Chef: Great Lakes in 2025.
For weddings, Maxwells Upstairs seats 72, or 100 for a reception. A full buyout of the restaurant seats 150, or 200 for a reception. The Design Studio (12 to 24 seated) and the Third Season Store (12 seated) are the right size for a rehearsal dinner or a very small wedding. The restaurant also has a wood-paneled library that makes a good spot for a quieter corner of the night.
Our team has styled events in these rooms, and the photos on this page are from one of them. We set long linen-covered tables with low ceramic bowls of red lilies, cymbidium orchids and dried grasses, and lined the ceremony aisle with tall lily arrangements on concrete pedestals.
Planning a Maxwells Trading Wedding
At Maxwells the food is the point, so we plan the day around dinner. The kitchen cooks with what's growing on the roof, and we build the tasting, the pacing of courses and the toasts around that. The rooms are intimate, so the flowers sit close to the plates. We keep table arrangements low and save the height for the ceremony, the way the lily pedestals do here.
